How to Change a DE Filter Pressure Gauge

This guide illustrates how easy it is to replace a DE Filter Pressure Gauge. One way to check your filter's health is by reading the pressure gauge. Reading the filter gauge can show you the pressure is too high which could mean it is time to change your filter media; or too low which may mean you have a leak.

1. First, before disassembling your filter or changing the valve lever position turn off your pool pump to prevent any excessive water loss and safety concerns.

2. To locate the pressure gauge of your filter you may either have to look on the filter body or the multiport valve. One our model you will see it is located on the top of the filter.

3. Now to remove the gauge - grasp the gauge and turn it to remove (lefty loosey, righty tighty).

4. If you have an issue getting the gauge to turn you may have more success if you release the air pressure release.

5. If you are simply troubleshooting your filter trying to find a source of a problem take this time to check for any obvious damage or warps in the O-ring. Also inspect the gauge port for defects.

6. Now to install the new filter pressure gauge.

7. If your pressure gauge requires an O-ring this is the time in which you would roll it down in place on the gauge screw piece.

8. Attach the new filter pressure gauge to its port by screwing into place. With some ports you may want to use 2 to 3 layers Teflon tape on the threads to tighten the seal of the gauge to its mount.

9. Once the gauge is in place the pool pump on to begin circulation of the water.

10. When the pump is primed and circulating your water, you should release any air that may have gotten into your system. Open the air relief valve until water spray replaces the air hiss, this will show that your system is free of air.

11. Check your gauge to be sure it reads at normal levels (10-20 psi), if it does not you may have to repeat these steps or you may have to troubleshoot another part of your system.
