The chlorine levels in a pool can fluctuate depending on the type of bather and the contaminants in the water. When used properly, pool chlorine can kill bacteria and remove them from the water. However, it can also cause algae and nitrates to enter the water.

You will need to reach the breakpoint chlorination step in order to break up the bound chlorine in the pool. This process involves raising the chlorine level to a high enough that it will start burning off all the contaminants.
