How To Install In Ground Pool Equipment - Part 4 - Chemicals

Part 4. Tired of monitoring and continually added chlorine and acid to your pool to maintain the chemical balance of your pool water? This guide helps you to understand what equipment you can set up in you pool system to automate the process of monitoring and dispensing chlorine and a pH reducer.

1. This pool system has three chemical control systems that, when used in conjunction with the main control system, automatically monitor and dispense chlorine and pH reducer as required. The 3 systems include: a Cl/pH Sensor - the Jandy Chemlink C1900; a Salt Cl Generator - the Jandy Fusion Soft Nature2 System; and an Acid Tank - the Stenner Tank and Pump System.

2. Jandy Chemlink C1900 monitors chlorine and pH levels automatically, activating purification systems if water chemistry falls below preset levels. Chemlink enables precision chemical dosing, alleviating the highs and lows caused by organic contaminates and overfeeding. The Chemlink C1900 has two components, the Chemlink Controller, shown here, and the Chemlink Flow Cell discussed below

4. The Aqualink RS Power Center and Jandy Touch Screen shown here are the brains of this operation. The user sets the desired chlorine and pH levels through the Jandy Touch Screen. When either reading monitored by the C1900 system is outside the desired range, the RS Power Center will activate the appropriate system to correct it. These control units are described more fully in Part 6 - Controls.

5. This picture and the next show how the Chemlink C1900 Flow Cell is connected to the main piping for samples. The supply line comes from a point in the main piping just after the circulation filter.

6. The return line from the Chemlink C1900 Flow Cell is connected to the main piping just after the Fusion salt water chlorinator.

7. When the Chemlink C1900 system senses that the pool's chlorine level drops below the desired level, the Aqualink RS Power Center activates the Jandy Fusion Soft Nature 2 system shown here. The Fusion System has two components, a Nature2 Cartridge and an Electrolytic Cell. The Nature2 Cartridge delivers controlled trace amounts of beneficial minerals to help reduce bacteria and maintain an algae free pool. The mineral cartridge also reduces the amount of chlorine your pool requires, which dramatically improves the water quality and extends the life of the Electrolytic Cell. The Electrolytic Cell produces chlorine from a low concentration of salt added to the pool water. The chlorine kills bacteria, oxidizes organic material, and kills algae.

8. When the Chemlink C1900 system senses that the pool's pH level exceeds the desired level, the Aqualink RS Power Center commands the Chemlink C1900 system to activate the Stenner Tank and Pump System shown here. The Stenner Tank and Pump System holds and disperses the acid required to raise the pH level in the pool.

9. The Stenner Pump in located on top of the Stenner Tank. On command the Stenner Pump draws acid from the tank and slowly injects into the main circulation water flow just before it returns to the pool.

10. This picture shows where the acid line from the Stenner Pump is corrected into the main circulation pipe going to the pool.

11. Putting it all together, water from the input line is sampled by the Chemlink C1900 Flow Cell for both chlorine and pH level. These readings are collected in the Chemlink C1900 Controller and passed to the Aqualink RS Power Center and Jandy Touch Screen. If the chlorine level is too low, the Aqualink RS Control System will turn on the Jandy Fusion Soft Nature 2 System to generate and dispense chlorine and minerals into the pool water. If the pH level is higher than the programmed value set through the Touch Screen, the Aqualink RS Control System will command the Chemlink C1900 Controller to turn on the Stenner Pump. The Pump in turn draws acid from the tank and injects it into the pool water through the return line.
