How to Identify if your pool drain cover is VGB Compliant

How to identify if your pool drain cover is VGB Compliant.

1. The Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool & Spa Safety Act or VGB Law was passed by the United States Congress in December of 2007. This law was inspired by the 2002 accidental drowning death of 7-year old Virginia Graeme Baker who died as a result of becoming stuck to faulty drain cover. Virginia Graeme Baker was also the granddaughter of former US Secretary of State James Baker III. This law was created to prevent accidental drain entrapments and eviscerations in pools and spas. The VGB legislation mandates that all pools and spas are required to have ASME/ANSI A11. 19.8-2007 compliant drain covers with an additional anti-entrapment system when there is only one main drain other than an unblockable drain.

3. Depending upon your state and region of the county, there may also be additional compliance regulations. We strongly recommend that you contact your local pool inspector to find out specifics on what is compliant.
