How To Assemble an Above Ground Oval Pool - Overview

Note: These instructions may vary according to your pool model so consult your owner's manual for any variations.

This guide provides you with an overview on how to install an Above Ground (AG) Oval Pool. Installing an Oval pool is a little more involved than installing a round pool because you have to reinforce the flat sides of the pool wall. This means more parts and more steps. There are two methods to reinforcing an Oval wall. The older method uses buttresses that extend 3' beyond the outside of the flat sides of the pool. These extensions make it difficult to get around the pool and also take up more of your yard. The newer method uses a strap structure assembled under the pool to reinforce the side walls. This guide outlines the newer method. Due to the length of this installation, it will be broken up into a series of guides as described briefly below. 

1. PREPARATION - Before you begin to install your above ground pool, collect all the tools and materials you will require for your pool construction. These will include: 

Tools Required:
  Shovel
  Tape Measure
  Phillips head screwdriver
  Duct tape  
  Carpenters Level and/or Transit
  Long 2"x4"
  Box Cutter
  Tamp
  5/15" Wrench
  1/4" Wrench

Materials / Equipment:
  Sand
  Filter 
  Skimmer / Return fitting
  Patio Blocks [2"x8"x16']

Separate and count all your packaged hardware to familiarize yourself with the pieces and to ensure that you have all the pieces ordered. 2.26

2. Part 1 - PREPARING THE SITE - This part of the series shows you how to select and prepare the site for your Oval Above Ground pool. 

3. Part 2 - ASSEMBLING THE STRAP ASSEMBLIES - This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you how to assemble the Strap Assemblies required to support the flat side walls of your Oval Above Ground pool. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section. 

4. PART 3 - INSTALLING BOTTOM RAIL ASSEMBLIES - The Bottom Rail, when assembled, provides a grooved base into which the bottom of your pool wall will be inserted. This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you how to assemble these Bottom Rails and all its connecting base structure. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section.

5. PART 4 - PREPARING BASE - Now that you have installed the basic pool structure, you will want to move sand inside the pool and create a base before the wall goes up. This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you how to prepare the initial base. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section.

6. PART 5 - ERECTING WALL - This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you how to erect the Pool Wall. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section. 

7. PART 6 - PREPARING FOR LINER - This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you what's required to prepare the sand base and the wall before you install the liner. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section.

8. PART 7 - INSTALLING LINER - This part of the Oval Pool Assembly series shows you how to install a Beaded Pool Liner in an Oval Pool. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section.

9. PART 8 - INSTALLING TOP RAIL ASSEMBLIES - The Top Rail Assemblies include the Top Rails that cover the top of the pool edge and the Top Covers that fit over the Uprights. This section shows you how to install these Top Rail Assemblies on your Oval Above Ground Pool. We suggest that you review the previous parts of this series before reading this section.

10. PART 9 - INSTALLING SKIMMER AND RETURN PORT - At this point, you will want to install your skimmer and connect a return port to your pump and filter. See your pool installation instructions for installing the pool Skimmer and pump connections. Note: you will have to have the pool at least half full to provide stability to the wall before adding the weight of the skimmer.
